The carousel of Quintana

The Tournament of the Quintana is among the best known and appreciated Italian horse races, as to be referred to as "the Olympics of equestrian competitions." For the occasion, ten knights, in seventeenth-century costume, representing the ten districts of the City take on a "Fake Name": the Ammanniti Ward Knight is "The Gagliardo", Badia District is "The Ardito", Rione Cassero "The Pertinace", Ward Contrastanga is "The Furious", the White Cross Ward is "The Faithful", Ward Giotti is "The Animoso", Ward La Mora "The Generoso", Ward Morley is "Baldo" Ward Pugilli is "Il Moro", Sword of Ward's "The Bold". All compete in riding a horse, with the aim of putting the fateful nine rings, three for each round, and then win the Palio .. Every year in June and in September.
