RADICEPURA GARDEN FESTIVAL | 21 April to 21 October 2017 | FIRST EDITION On April 21, opens in Giarre (CT) in Sicily, the first edition of the Garden of the Mediterranean Festival, sponsored by the Foundation Radicepura. The festival is the first international event dedicated to garden design and architecture of the Mediterranean landscape, which involves young designers, institutions, companies, major players of landscape, art and architecture. Until 21 October, in the botanical park Radicepura Foundation, you can visit the fourteen gardens, made specifically with the original plants grown from plants Faro, which gathers more than 800 species and 5,000 varieties of plants: tropical, succulent, aromatic, Mediterranean trees and citrus fruits.
Four gardens will be created by garden designers of international fame: Michel Péna, Stefano Passerotti, James Basson, Kamelia Zaal. Another six, smaller in size, will be made by young landscape architects selected through an international call. The call, which closed on January 8, 2017, registered an important participation, with over 200 applications from 10 different countries. The jury, chaired by Sarah Eberle with Jordi Bellmunt, Carmela Song Books, Daniela Romano, Franco Livoti and collaboration of Pablo Georgieff, selected in January, the six participants, who come from the University of Bologna (Italy), Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona - ETSAB (Spain), Agence de Paysage Andueza Agor (France), Istanbul Technical University, and Mustafa Kemal University (Turkey), to which is added a freelance professional (Uruguay / France).
the heart of the festival will be the celebration of the garden, not only in its aesthetic and cultural value but also for its role as the ideal place to stop the gaze on the beauty, in this case, the Sicilian region through personal interpretation Mediterranean Experience - theme of the first edition of Radicepura Garden Festival - four great landscape and six young designers will therefore want to create an event - space capable of cake art, food and wine culture and environmental protection, as constituent elements of an extraordinary land.
The Mediterranean is one of the "major projects" of humanity in every sense of the term: ecology, cultures, economies, knowledge, live together - says Pablo Georgieff, artistic director of the festival. We all want to be involved in the invention of this future which we believe. So to think and make the gardeners, the chance of a new unique festival of its kind deserves special attention: it is, to our knowledge, the first festival of gardens arranged in a nursery facility. This idea allows you to discover not only the "show" of the gardens, but also the reality of production in nurseries and visibility to the work of all actors in the construction of gardens.
Other gardens to be discovered will be La Macchia, garden - mirror, anamorphosis, an art installation created by François-botanical Abelanet with Michel Péna for the exhibition Jardins d'Orient, which arrives in Giarre with the Institut du monde arabe in Paris, Garden Italy in collaboration with the University of the Studies and the Botanical Garden of Padua, and yet the teaching Orto.
The botanical park Radicepura will also host artistic performances and exhibitions: the two Sicilian artists Emilio Isgrò and Alfio Bonannorealizzeranno site-specific works and installations for the festival, the Collicaligreggi Gallery will cure a photo exhibition related to the world of botany.
For the duration of the festival, there is also a busy schedule of appointments and meetings, to deepen through workshops, conversations and walks the themes proposed in the event.
Radicepura is a unique horticultural park, research-oriented, that embodies the authenticity of nature and the latest technology, while respecting the environment. Located between Etna and the Ionian coast, the park is constantly growing and in 2017, on the occasion of Radicepura Garden Festival, will open its doors the new botanical garden, the park's green lung.
